Our Humble Beginnings
Vulcan® Welder was founded over 4 decades ago by a young welder named John Smith. John was passionate about welding from a young age, even building his own arc welder from scrap metal when he was just 15 years old. However, as John grew older, he realized that quality welding equipment was difficult for the average person to obtain.
The professional-grade machines were far too expensive, while the low-cost import welders were unreliable and inconsistent. John dreamed of a middle ground – thoughtfully designed, user-friendly welders at reasonable prices. And so, Vulcan® Welder was born out of this vision.
John started small, selling DIY kits and basic stick welders from his garage. But word quickly spread that these budget-friendly machines actually worked surprisingly well. Before long, John moved to a small warehouse to meet the growing demand.
Growth Through Innovation
As Vulcan® continued to expand, John remained committed to innovation. He constantly sought out ways to improve welding technology and make it more accessible.
In the 1980s, we were one of the first companies to offer MIG welders to hobbyists. By fine-tuning the flux core technology, Vulcan® gave home metalworkers an affordable way to do clean, spatter-free welds.
Vulcan® struck again in the 1990s with the release of our first inverter-based TIG welders. The inverter design allowed for a compact, portable unit that rivaled industrial welders at a fraction of the cost.
Today, we offer an extensive selection of welders covering just about any process – MIG, TIG, Stick, Flux-Cored, Multi-Process, and more. However, innovation remains at the heart of what we do. We are constantly developing new technologies and value-packed features to help welders get the most out of their machines.

We also manufacture our own proprietary components for critical systems like the torches, drive systems, and transformers. By controlling these parts in-house, we can fine-tune them to work seamlessly with the rest of the machine. This level of integration just isn’t possible with off-the-shelf parts.

We take the time to properly deburr parts, chamfer edges, and finish welds – details that are often overlooked at other manufacturers. Real-World Testing
Of course, all the design and manufacturing finesse in the world means nothing if the welder doesn’t perform when it counts. That’s why Vulcan® machines undergo grueling real-world testing before ever leaving the factory.
Every unit is run continuously for over 8 hours to ensure it can withstand prolonged use without overheating or failure. The machines are tested with various electrodes and wire diameters, pushed to their output limits, and subjected to repeated starts and stops.
We also have a dedicated team of employees who go out into the field to put Vulcan® welders through their paces. They work on farms, construction sites, fabrication shops – wherever welding happens. This allows us to repeatedly test the equipment under actual working conditions.
The feedback from our test crews has led to countless improvements over the years. It has helped us beef up chassis, redesign circuits, improve torque, and generally make the machines more durable and user-friendly.
